Love and Lust: Are both same?

Posted on: August 29, 2014

While we all have heard the words ‘love’ and ‘lust’ a million times, today, when I sat down to write this, I was struggling to define these.

Weird as it may sound, I didn’t know what would make them sound politically correct.

Love is a universal phenomenon, everybody experiences this emotion at least once in a lifetime. Even if your love for someone is unrequited, the memories could last for a lifetime, sometimes, even long after you move on.

Lust is the intense passion to possess what you desire, even if it does not belong to you.
I wish I could explain this better with a scenario.

Boy meets girl, there is attraction at first, a few dates later they get intimate. While its too early to conclude if the driving force is love or lust – if any of the partners has a different opinion or mindset, what could follow is emotional turmoil.  If there is guilt, embarrassment or possible break-up and a vanishing act, it may seem to be an end of that relationship.

Lust can lead to disastrous endings if you remain insanely passionate about something that may be ethically incorrect.

When madness and passion overpower logic and common sense to an extent that can be fatal, that’s lust. There may be a fine line between love and lust.
Sometimes, you just need to listen to your head when your heart screams otherwise
